Older gays don't find acceptance in elder housing

NYT Compared to today's younger generation of increased gay acceptance, gay seniors do generally still face ostracism from other elderly and can be reluctant to enter into senior housing facilities.

If you think things are bad in the US, where there are around 25 LGBT seniors' care facilities, the rest of the world has a long way to go with only a handful of such places in Europe.

OTOH, at least the UK now has mandatory diversity training for care staff, but carers are typically amongst the lowest paid and least educated and often from countries were discrimination is endemic.

The gay "community" and gay charities could do more - gay marriage may be the ideal for those in relationships but research has shown that most gay seniors live alone and have fewer dependents than hetros - ageing affects us all..
